Sarnia Beavers Put in Good Effort Against League Leaders

saturday June 1, 2013

The Sarnia Beavers dropped a close one against the league leaders St. Catharines Saints by a final score of 9 - 6 in Ontario Senior B Lacrosse League action.

"It was a good effort, it was a good game for people to see." said Head Coach Gord Neely "We got frustrated when a few calls didn't go our way that we thought should have but we had enough opportunities to win the game by far."

The Saints took a 3 - 1 lead after the first period and had a one goal lead at the end second with a score at 5 - 4.

"This is a big test for our team too.  This team is suppose to be the number one team in the league and it was a good measuring stick for us tonight."  Neely said

Kevin Fines led the Beavers with four points with two goals and two assists.  Kyle Childerhose tallied three points with two goals and an assist.  Michael Fleming also earned three points with a single goal and two assists.  Colin McDowall scored one and earned an assist for two points.  Jim Purves earned two points with two assists and Chris Davey, Brandon McFarlane assisted once for one point each.

Justin Matthews was solid in net for the Beavers and made many key saves in the game.

The Beavers are now 3-7 for the season and have dropped to fifth place in the league.  The Beavers are back in action on Saturday June 8th when they host the Oakville Titans.  Currently the Titans are sitting in last place.

"We can play with anyone in the league; we had one bad game this year that we got blown out, that will happen but the rest of the games have all been close. If you look at he standings from third place to sixth place there is only two points separating everyone.  We are just concentrating on win one game at a time and make the playoffs, that's our first goal." Neely said
