Alvinston Indians Win Again

The Alvinston Indians improved to 8-1 on the season in St. Thomas & District Major Fastball League action. They lost their first game of the season to Shedden, 1-0, and have now won 8 straight ball games. Tonight, they defeated the Glencoe Astros 9-2.

Rookie New Zealander, Josh Thompson hit a solo homerun for Alvinston to open the scoring, and then after Glencoe evened matters at one, Alvinston broke out for 5 runs in the fourth inning. A Ryan Chapman double, followed by a Thompson walk, put runners on first and second. Rookie Steve Lyons then singled to load the bases. With two out, Craig Lyons hit a 2 run RBI single to score both Chapman and Thompson. Jamie Shields then followed with a RBI double scoring S. Lyons. Jeff Lyons then doubled to score two more runs, when C. Lyons and Andy Triest (running for Shields) scored.

After a five run fourth, Glencoe added a run in the top of the fifth, but Alvinston ended the game in their half of the fifth, when they added three more runs to end the game. Ty Sebastian walked to lead the Indians off, and Chapman followed with a single. Thompson followed with an RBI single, scoring Sebastian. Two straight fielder's choices by S. Lyons and Devin Triest put runners on first and second with two out, and C. Lyons tripled into the gap to score both S. Lyons and D. Triest, to record 4 RBI's in the contest, and end the game.

C. Lyons, Chapman, and Thompson each had multihit games for the Indians. Kyle Crawford was stellar once again for the Indians, allowing two runs (one earned run) in five innings of work on the mound, to collect the victory. He allowed 3 hits, a walk, and hit one batter, while striking out 4.

Next up the Indians will travel to Tavistock on Friday for a 9 PM Game VS Milverton in there first game in the ISC Qualifier If they win the game game 2 is Saturday morning at 8:00 am if a loss game two is noon Saturday .
