Crawford and Indians Blank Shedden

friday june 21, 2013

The Alvinston Indians were at home Thursday evening on a beautiful night for fastball in the St. Thomas & District Major Fastball League. The 8-1 Indians were facing off against the 9-2 Shedden Mission, in what was a battle for first place.

The Indians wasted no time, as Jamie Shields opened the scoring in the bottom of the first inning, with a solo homerun that just cleared the centrefield fence. It stayed 1-0 until the third inning, when Alvinston broke open the game. Eric Hyatt led off the inning with a solo homerun to the opposite field, making it 2-0. With one out, Joe Triest was hit by a pitch, Jamie Shields promptly doubled, and Jeff Lyons did the same for Alvinston, scoring both Joe Triest and Shields. Aaron Stocking then followed, and hit a blistering two run homerun over the centrefield fence, increasing the Alvinston lead to 6-0. Ty Sebastian then walked, and would eventually score on an RBI single by Josh Thomson for the 7 - 0 final score.

It was business as usual for Kyle Crawford on the mound for the Indians. He pitched five innings of shutout ball, holding a potent Shedden lineup to only three hits, all singles, and he walked three. He had nine strikeouts in the win. Cassidy North, Brent Dawdy, and Tyler Lynch had the hits for Shedden.

The Indians are now 9-1 on the season, and get a week off, as their next scheduled game is Thursday night at home, against Glanworth.
