Kitchener Takes Atom Division Title at Sarnia Hockey March Break Tournament

Kitchener Yellow Hornets


The Sarnia Hockey Association March Break Tournament ended yesterday with Champions decided in three divisions.


In the Atom Division a total of eight teams competed that included five local teams and three teams from Kitchener, London and BCH (Bayfield, Clinton and Hensall Hockey Assocation).  The Kitchener Yellow Hornets went 3 - 1 in round robin that earned them the first place spot in the A Group.  LMHA Thunder (London) went undefeated going 4 - 0 to take the top spot in the B Group.  The two top teams moved on to the final round.


In a close final Kitchener came out on top with a final score of 4 - 2 to take the Atom Division Championship.  Kitchener led after the first period by a score of 1 - 0 with Kyle Murawsky scoring assisted by Justin Hamilton and Sam Pittaway. 


In the second period the Thunder scored a power play goal to even the score with Ryan Bottom scoring from Jordan Bussenbury.  Two minutes later Kitchener was killing off a penalty,  Bradley Maziarz took a pass from Sam Pittaway and went in and scored a shorthanded goal to give Kitchener the lead once again.  London battled back and with 2:19 left in the second period the Thunder scored their second power play goal to even the score 2 - 2 heading into the third period.




Jensen Medeiros scored with Daniel McKinnon and Nick Amoral assisting.


Third period Kitchener scored on a power play to give them the lead once again.  Benjamin Markovic scored the power play goal and what turned out to be the game winner with Kyle Murawsky assisting.   Kitchener went on a scored their fourth goal with 2:43 remaining with Bradley Maxiarz scoring.  As time ran down, Kitchener took a penalty with :11 seconds remaining.  London pulled their goalie for the two man extra attack but Kitchener Yellow Hornets held on to take the win and the Atom Division Championship title.
