Indians Fall in Opener of 2013 Season

Saturday may 4, 2013

The Alvinston Indians traveled to Fingal to play the Shedden Mission, in their opener of the 2013 St. Thomas & District Fastball League Schedule. The Indians sent Kyle Crawford to the mound, while the Shedden Mission countered with Nic Goetz, with Jason Dawdy coming in in relief.

The game was a back and forth pitching duel of sorts, with the game remaining scoreless until the bottom of the fifth inning, when Shedden counted the first run, when Tyler Lynch hit a sacrifice fly to score Brent Dawdy, who reached via an error. The Indians threatened in a couple innings, but were 0-4 with runners in scoring position in the contest. Andy Triest, Tyler Huff, and Jeff Lyons had the only hits for the Indians. Rookie Tyler Huff, recorded his first base hit of his young career in the league, in the opening game loss, while playing well at third base.

Huff, Devin Triest, Darren Manns, and Ty Sebastien all made their Indians debut in the red and blue.

Crawford was the hard luck loser in the game, tossing all seven innings, and allowing only two hits, while striking out seven. He walked no one, and allowed the one run but it was unearned.

Final score of the Indians opener, was Shedden 1, Alvinston nothing. The Indians travel to Springfield on Tuesday, for an 8:30pm tilt on the road, where they will look to score their first run of the 2013 campaign.
