The Sarnia FC U10 Red team was firing on all cylinders this weekend as they took to the pitch for two exhibition games prior to regular season play commencing Tuesday, May 7.
The weather finally cooperated and the boys certainly gave their fans something to cheer about. The first match was Friday night against the Sarnia Girls U10 select travel team. The boys controlled the game form the beginning and worked brilliantly as a team ending in a 6-0 victory.
Goal scorers were Jacob Drapotoy with the hatrick (scored off two brilliant feeds from Matthew Gouveia, and a terrific cross from Matteus Hartmann), Janzen Wark with a terrific strike off a feed from Matthew Gouveia, Matthew Gouveia with a blazing top corner strike and Brannyn Cooper with a brilliant finish off a precise pass from Ewan Morrison.
Superb defence throughout the game from Wyatt Ladanchuk, Jordan Foster, Brannyn Cooper and Matthew Gouveia. Top notch forward play and passing from Jacob Beaudoin, Eric Larocque, Matteus Hartmann, Ewan Morrison, Janzen Wark and Jacob Drapotoy. Superb goal tending and a shared shut out to Jeremy MacMillan and Alex Weir.
The second game would happen the following morning when the FC U 10 Red team would take on league rivals Sarnia FC U9.
The U9 team came out strong and played a tight, defensive game against the U 10 Red team. Great goal tending from the U9 keeper denied the first few attempts made by the U10 Red team. Finally, Ewan Morrison would dribble past the defence and pound one into the net. Jacob Drapotoy would follow shortly off a feed from Matthew Gouveia and Janzen Wark would bring the ball down the side of the pitch and finish off the third goal. The U9s would not be denied and blazed back into the game with 2 goals of their own; leaving the score 3-2 for the U10 Red at half.
The FC U10 Red boys would regroup and fire up at half time. The team came out strong and scored 4 more unanswered goals in the second half to net a 7-2 win. Two second half goals were scored by Jacob Drapotoy (off feeds from Matthew Gouveia and Jacob Beaudoin), Eric Larocque off a feed from Jacob Drapotoy and Jeremy MacMillan off a brilliant cross in front of the net by Ewan Morrison.
Solid defence was once again shown by the "Red Wall" of Wyatt Ladanchuk, Matthew Gouveia, Brannyn Cooper, and Jordan Foster. Excellent and aggressive forward play by Matteus Hartman, Jacob Drapotoy, Eric Larocque, Jacob Beaudoin, Janzen Wark, and Ewan Morrison.
Another strong performance in net from Alex Weir and Jeremy MacMillan. Parents and coaches are very proud of the boys and their efforts this weekend and look forward to a terrific season.
