Sarnia Braves AAA Senior Men's Win Home/Season Opener

monday may 6, 2013

The Sarnia Braves Men's AAA base ball team hosted the Tecumseh Thunder in their first game of the 2013 Can Am League season and won their season/home opener with a final score of 2 - 1.

"That was a great win for the ball club after we spent a lot of time in the off season preparing." said Player Coach James Grant.

Sarnia trailed 1 - 0 after a Thunder lead off home run was batted in by Dan McFarlane in the opening inning.

The pitching staff on both sides kept the score at 1 - 0 until the bottom of 6th when Sarnia's McKenzie Maxwell hit a line drive down the 3rd base line and earned a double.  Designated hitter Jeff Randell also hit a single down third base line that moved Maxwell to third.  On a missed catch by the catcher Maxwell drove in to tie the game at 1 run apiece.

"When we were down 1 - 0 late in the game we tried to bunt in the runner and the pitcher let a wild pitch go that was the difference in the game and gave us some momentum." Grant said

Top of the seventh Sarnia fielding made 3 consecutive outs and the team returned to the dugout to take their final bats.  First two batters at bat Josh Taylor and Wade Babula were walked. Dom Bucci bunt was successful and everyone moved to load up the bases.

McKenzie Maxwell took to the plate and tapped one over the second baseman into right field to drive home Josh Taylor and the winning run.

"We added great defensive players but coming out early it was hard to hit the ball, but their ability to swing at good pitches made a difference."

Grant said
