On Tuesday evening, the Alvinston Indians traveled to Springfield, for game 2 of their 2013 season, in St. Thomas & District Major Fastball League play. The Indians sent 20 year old Ty Sebastian to the mound, while the Springfield Brewers countered with veteran Shaun Winship.
Alvinston opened up the game in the first inning with a run, after Jeff Lyons walked with two out. Aaron Stocking then followed with a single, and Ty Sebastian did the same to score Lyons for the game's first run.
Alvinston added two more runs in the third inning, when Jamie Shields hit a one out bunt single. Once again with two out, Stocking delivered his second hit of the game, this time a triple in the gap, to score Jeff Lyons, who was running for Jamie Shields. Sebastian then followed with a double of his own, and his second hit of the contest, to score Stocking, for a 3-0 lead.
In the fourth inning, the Indians added to their lead, when Brad Cooper (making his debut for the Indians) crushed a homerun over the centre field fence, extending the lead to 4-0.
Cooper would single one more time in the game, going 2/3 on the evening. Stocking was 2/4, while rookie Sebastian was 2/3, and Andy Triest was 1/2 with a walk. Kyle Crawford also collected his first hit of the season in the win. Sebastian was the winning pitcher for Alvinston allowing one earned run on one hit, with three walks, and two strikeouts. Crawford earned the save tossing three innings, allowing one earned run on one hit, with one walk, and six strikeouts. The final score was Alvinston 4, Springfield 2. Steve Lyons and Mike DeBruyn also made their Indians debut's in this game.
Alvinston comes home on Thursday evening for their home opener, against the Glencoe Astros, beginning at 8:00pm.
