Indians Come From Behind at Home

FRIDAY MAY 17, 2013

The Alvinston Indians hosted the Glanworth Gators, Thursday evening, in St. Thomas & District Major Fastball League action.

Glanworth scored first in the first inning off of Indians starter Ty Sebastian, but Alvinston equalled matters in the bottom half of the inning, when Craig Lyons singled, advanced to second on a pass ball, and then scored on an RBI single by Jeff Lyons. Alvinston then tacked on two more runs in the opening at bat, when J. Lyons came around to score on an RBI triple by Sebastian in the right field gap, while Sebastian would count when Brad Cooper reached base via an error.

With a 3-1 lead for Alvinston, Glanworth made things close, as a leadoff walk eventually produced a run for the Gators in the top of the second inning, making it 3-2. It was in the third inning however, when the game would change in a big way, as the Glanworth Gators scored 5 runs, on three hits, 2 walks, and an error; making it a 7-3 lead.

Alvinston had their work cut out for them, and threy cut into the lead in their half of the third inning, as they were able to score 1 run, when Jeff Lyons singled and would eventually score on a pass ball, making it 7-4 in favour of Glanworth, as they escaped the inning leaving the bases loaded.

Kyle Crawford recorded the final out in the Glanworth 5-run third inning for the Indians, and would then settle into the game, allowing only three base runners the rest of the way, and giving Alvinston the ability to get back in the game. In the fourth inning, the Indians added two more runs. Tyler Huff walked with one out for Alvinston. J. Lyons then reached base via an error, putting runners on first and second. That set the stage once again for Sebastian, who hit another triple into the gap, this time scoring both Huff and J. Lyons.

With the score now 7-6 in favour of Glanworth, the Indians came to bat in the bottom of the fifth, and scored four runs of their own, which ended up sealing the deal and win for the Indians. Pitcher Crawford singled, then veteran Ryan Chapman walked. With runners on first and second, Andy Triest hit a sacrifice bunt advancing the runners to second and third, and C. Lyons promptly doubled down the left field foul line, to score both runners. With two out, J. Lyons walked, and Stocking hit an infield single to load the bases, for who else, but Sebastian once again. This time Sebastian clubbed a double to score both Lyons' brothers, and in doing so, drove in his fourth and fifth runs on the game for the Indians offence.

The final score was Alvinston 10, Glanworth 7. Crawford collected the win for Alvinston, tossing 4 1/3 innings, and allowing one hit and a walk. He struckout 8 Gator swingers, and allowed no runs. Craig Lyons was 2/5 in the contest, while brother Jeff was 2/4, and together they scored 6 of the 10 Indians runs. Ty Sebastian was 3/4 with 2 triples, a double, and 5 rbi's. Veteran Ryan Chapman donned his Indians jersey for the first time in the 2013 season, and was 1/1 with a single, and two walks, and a run scored.

The next action for the Indians is Tuesday night in Fingal versus St. Thomas at 8:00pm.
