Alvinston Indians Victorious on the Road

wednesday may 22, 2013

On Tuesday night, the Alvinston Indians were on the road, travelling to Fingal, to play the St. Thomas Storm. Four consecutive singles in the first inning by Joe Triest, Craig Lyons, Jeff Lyons, and Aaron Stocking, got the Indians out in front early, by a score of 2-0.

In the top of the third inning, Jeff Lyons hit a solo homerun, to extend the Alvinston lead to 3-0. In the fourth inning, Alvinston added three more runs to extend their lead to 6-0. Debruyn reached base via an error, was sacrificed to second by Andy Triest, and scored on an RBI single by Joe Triest. Jeff Lyons then followed with a 2-out single, and Aaron Stocking delivered again, smacking a double in the gap that scored both J. Triest, and J. Lyons. In the fifth inning, a leadoff walk to Jamie Shields, ended up producing a seventh run in the contest for Alvinston, when A. Triest reached base via an error, which scored Debruyn, who was running for Shields.

St. Thomas finally touched up Indians starter Kyle Crawford in the bottom of the fifth, when a leadoff walk to Paul Velema, came around to score on a 2-out RBI single by Chris Wismer for St. Thomas. Now with a 7-1 lead, Alvinston scored one more run in the sixth inning. C. Lyons walked, J. Lyons singled, and Ty Sebastian reached base via an infield single to load the bases with one out. A Shields groundout to second, plated C. Lyons for the game's eighth run, which ended up being the mercy run for Alvinston, allowing them to be victorious.

Crawford earned another win in the circle for Alvinston, scattering 5 hits over 6 innings of work, with 4 walks, and 11 strikeouts. He allowed the one earned run in the win. Alvinston's next action is Thursday night in Alvinston, beginning at 8:00pm, versus the Morpeth Magic.
