St. Christopher Cyclones take LSSAA Senior Boys Title in Shoot Out
friday may 24, 2013
After regulation time and two overtime halves the game was scoreless between St. Christopher Cyclones and Northern Vikings. In shoot out the Cyclones scored 5 - 3 to win the 2013 LSSAA title.
"It's too bad it has to be settled that way" said Cyclones coach Rich Prudom "Once you get to PK's it's anybody's game, I thought anyone that came out on top deserved it because it was that close."
After the Vikings fourth kicker kicked the ball over the crossbar the pressure was on Nick Vozza to score to seal the win. "I knew I had to put it on net, if it was on it was going to go in, there was no way I was going to miss." said Vozza
In previous action between the two teams St. Christopher won by a close 1 - 0 score.
"I thought we played our best game of the year today." said Prudome "We didn't have a great semi final game but we squeaked by (2 - 1 over SCITS) but we probably had the best game of the season today. We were missing two starters and everyone else pulled together and we pulled it off."
Northern Josh Graham and St. Christopher's Austin Spearman played outstanding in net for their teams.
"It's always an intense time and as a goalie you have to stay focused." said Spearman "I had all the confidence in the world that my teammates would hit the penalty shots. We got lucky that they missed one and we took advantage and won."
The two teams will now move on to compete in SWOSSA. On Monday St. Christopher will travel to Wallaceburg to compete in the AA division and Northern will travel to Chatham Kent for the AAA division.
