monday november 4, 2013

Following the SMAA Finals on Saturday at Norm Perry Park the Northern Jr Vinkings and St. Pat's Irish took to the field to compete for the LSSAA Jr. Football title.

After some back and forth, St. Pat's opened things up with a field goal at the 4:40 mark of the first quarter. In the final minutes of the opening quarter, the Irish struck again on breakaway run into the endzone, followed by an extra point.

The Vikings got on the board at 9:20 of the second quarter when Zach Doxilly took the ball into the endzone from 60 yards out. Aaran Pollock booted the extra point. After a strong defensive effort deep in Irish territory, Vincent Ham took a handoff from 40 yards out, and scrambled into the endzone. Pollock added the extra point.

The score was Vikings 14, Irish 10 at the half.

St. Pat's struck first in the game's second half, on a 20 yard run into the endzone. The Irish converted the extra point.

At 6:08 of the final quarter, the Vikings' Vincent Ham exploded out of the backfield for a 70 yard run. The extra point attempt was blocked. With 2:38 left in the game, St. Pat's tied things up at 20 with a field goal. With less than a minute left in the game, the Irish punted the ball through the endzone for a rouge. As the seconds ticked away, the Vikings passed their way deep into the Irish end of the field, and set things up for a field goal. Aaran Pollock booted the ball through the uprights as the final siren sounded.

The Vikings came out on top, 23-21 to take the LSSAA Jr. Football crown for the 2013 season.
