Squires Win at Home

Petrolia Squires defeated the Monkton Wildcats 4 - 1 Friday night in Petrolia at the Greenwood Recreation Centre in WOAA Senior AA Hockey League action.
After a scoreless first period the Squires jumped to a 2 - 0 lead in the second with goals by Norm Leger scoreing the first from Dan Veenema and Shawn Waldie and the second goal by Scott McPhail from Jeff Gardner and James Edgar.
Third period action saw Monkton score their only goal just :34 seconds into the period by Dan Raycraft. Chris Edwards scored the third goal for the Squires just over the midway point with Scott McPhail picking up the assist. Wildcats tried to claw their way back in the final minutes after pulling their goalie but came up short giving Breydan Belan the final goal into the empty net. Justin Smith and James Edgar earned assists on the final goal.
Petrolia outshot Monkton 52 - 33. Brandon Campbell earned the win in net for Petrolia with 32 saves. Jason Hamilton took the loss made 49 saves.
Both sides went scoreless in power play opportunities. Petrolia missed on six chances, Monkton had three opportunities.
Petrolia are now 4-5-1 for 9 points even with Milverton in 5th place.
The Squires are back in action tonight (Nov 16) in Milverton. Next home game is Fri Nov 22 at 8:00 pm vs Komoka at Greenwood Recreation Centre.
