Celebrating in Wallaceburg as Lakers Won First League Game

The Wallaceburg Lakers Great Lakes Jr C hockey team put an end to their 0-15 drought with a 3 - 2 win over the Blenheim Blades last night in Wallaceburg.
The Lakers took a 2 - 1 lead after the first period with Lucais Meyskens scoring just :56 seconds after the opening faceoff. Justin Lindsay scored the Lakers second goal at 2:52. Midway in the first Zack Horvath scored for the Blades to narrow the gap heading into the second. Second period saw the Lakers score the lone goal at 1:13 by Justin Whitson and the Lakers led 3 - 1 heading into the third.
Blenheim came within one goal in the third after Cam Aitken scored at 8:52 but were unable to score the equalizer. A couple of major penalties were handed out in the third for fighting but overall penalty time was down. Blenheim took a total of 5 minutes on 2 infractions that gave Wallaceburg zero power play opportunities. Wallaceburg took 11 on 6 infractions but denied Blenheim's three power play opportunities.
Joel Sowinski was outstanding in net for the Lakers keeping them in the game after making a total of 41 saves. The Blade's netminder Eric Stewardson made 16 saves.
The Lakers will look for their second win on Thursday November 6 when they host the Alvinston Flyers. Game will be held at Walpole Arena with a 7:30 puck drop.
