A pair of Bantam games were played Monday night at Norm Perry Park.
The first game was literally a clash of the titans with first place up for grabs in a contest between the Mechanical Contractor's Association Toros and the Mammoet Crane Incorporated Mammoths. The game had an ominous beginning for the Toros as they took the opening kickoff and drove down the field to the Mammoth 10 yard line where they fumbled. However the Toro defence held firm and on their next possession the Toros opened the scoring on a 1 yard plunge up the middle by recently converted lineman, Maximillian Michelucci. Aiden Hodgson's convert gave the Toros an 8-0 advantage. The Mammoth offence then awakened and had an excellent drive of their own which concluded on a 1 yard run by Cole Morrison shrinking the Toro lead to 8-6. Hodgson's 21 yard end around and his resulting convert staked the Toros to a 16-6 lead at the break.
The teams battled to a draw in the second half with Jakson Fisher scoring on a 1 yard quarterback keeper with Hodgson converting for the Toros and a 32 yard pass from Travis Conrad to Hunter Hendrie along with a convert by Garrett Patterson for thew Mammoths. The Toros prevailed 24-14 and clinched first place.
In the nightcap the Sylvan Learning Centre Bears were seeking their second straight victory in a contest with the Sarnia Police Association Tiger Sharks. The teams traded fumbles on their opening possessions. The Bears got on the board first thanks to a 60 yard run by the talented Josh Clubb and a 2 point convert by Clay Mackie. The next time they had the ball, the Bears scored again on a 56 yard run by Clubb and a 1 point convert by Mackie. Hard running Hunter Brumwell closed the gap to 15-6 on a 1 yard plunge. The explosive Bear offence then struck for 13 points in less than 3 minutes, first on a 46 yard run by Mackie then on a 39 yard pass from quarterback Cole Rogers to Clubb. Mackie added a single point convert to Clubb's touchdown for a 28-6 Bear lead at the half.
The Sharks did not give up and scored a pair of touchdowns in the second half on runs of 1 and 19 yards by Brumwell. Clubb added another major on a 76 yard run and Mackie's single point convert made the final tally 35-18 Bears.
