Monday Night SMAA Football at Norm Perry Park

tuesday october 15, 2013

Two very exciting games highlighted Monday's card at Norm Perry Park.  In the opener the Mechanical Contractor's Association Toros tackled the Sylvan Learning Centre Bears.  The Bears got on the board first on an 11 yard touchdown run by Josh Clubb.  But the Toros responded with Noah McLean scoring the Toro's first major of the half on a tough 6 yard run.  The Toros took a lead they would never relinquish on a 2 yard run by Maximillian Michelucci and a convert by Aiden Hodgson with 3 minutes remaining in the half,  for a 14-6 lead at the break.  The second half was a track meet with numerous touchdowns.  The Bears scored 3 touchdowns on a 2 yard run by Teshawn Stevenson, a 68 yard kickoff return by Clay Mackie and a 21 yard scamper by Clubb.  Clubb also converted his touchdown.  The Toros countered with 3 touchdowns of their own on 2 more scores by Michelucci, a run by Hodgson and 3 successful converts by Hodgson for a 38-25 Toro victory.

In the nightcap the Sarnia Police Association Tiger Sharks and the Mammoet Crane Mammoths competed in a very entertaining game with many lead changes.  The Sharks scored first on a 5 yard run by Kurtis Hill.  The Mammoths responded on a 57 yard scamper by Jackson Smiley.  Garrett Patterson's convert put them ahead 8-6.  The Tiger Sharks retook the lead on a 1 yard plunge by Hunter Brumwell.   Travis Conrad ran the ball in on a quarterback keeper from 10 yards out and Patterson's convert put the Mammoths up once more by a score of 16-12.  Hill's 26 yard run just before time expired in the second quarter had the Tiger Sharks up 18-16 at the half.  The teams traded touchdowns in the second half with Mack Fiddy and Conrad crossing the goal line for the Mammoths and Hill adding 2 more touchdowns for the Sharks, his second with just over a minute to play.  This major put the Tiger Sharks up 30-28.  The Mammoths drove down the field in the last minute and the game ended when a pass into the Tiger Shark end zone fell incomplete.

Each team has one more game in the Bantam Division before the playoffs.  The match ups in the playoffs will be the same as tonight's games which should make for 2 very exciting semi-final clashes.
