Northern Jr Vikings Downed By St. Pat's Irish

friday october 18, 2013,

It was a rain-soaked and muddy affair on Northern’s home field this afternoon, as the Jr. Vikings took on a hard-fighting St. Pat’s squad.

After a back and forth 1st quarter, the Jr. Irish struck first, at the five minute mark of the 2nd, and added an extra point.  The Vikings responded immediately when Vincent Ham caught the ensuing Irish kickoff, and blazed a 70 yard trail into the endzone.  The extra point attempt was short.

Despite great effort from both sides, the score remained Vikings 6, Irish 7 heading into halftime.

A field goal late in the third quarter put the Irish up 10-6.  That lead didn’t hold for long.  On the very next play, Zach Doxilly took the ball on a pitch, and screamed down the sideline on a 70 yard run for a touchdown.  The extra point was wide.

The fourth quarter saw Doxilly strike again from almost the same distance as his first major.  The point after attempt by Keyshaun Jordan was good, and the score was Vikings 20, Irish 10.  With less than three minutes remaining in the game, the Irish pounded the ball into the endzone and converted the extra point.  In the games’ dying seconds, the Irish put a drive together that ended with another major and an extra point, making the final score Irish 24, Vikings 20.
