The Sarnia Jr. Lady Sting Atom C team played in the Etobicoke Dolphins Pink the Rink IV tournament Oct. 18-20 and brought back GOLD!
For many of the girls it was their first gold medal and the coaching staff's first tournament and medal.
A very special mention to be made to Emma Regimbald who played her first tournament (after playing with Sarnia girls house league for the last two years) and stood on her head! Regimbald went 5 - 0 in the tournament and denied all teams of goals earning 5 shut out wins.
In the first game of the tournament the Lady Sting met county rivals Petrolia and defeated them with a final score of 2 - 0. Next game they went up against Belmont and the two teams ended in a scoreless 0-0 tie. Next up the Lady Sting went up against Nepean and again the score was 0 - 0.
The most exciting game was the play off game against the Sudbury Lady Wolves where, after a 0-0 tie. The Lady Sting played through two overtimes scoreless and moved onto a shoot out.
Cadence MacDonald scored the game winning goal on the Sudbury goalie and Regimbald remained ruthless in net and denied their three shooters. The win earned the Lady Sting sent them to the gold medal game where they defeated Russell 1 - 0.
Other goals scored in the tournament were by Kaitlyn Handy (2), Kayden Hayes (1) with assists by Megan Putter (2), Cadence MacDonald (1) and Paige Vidler (1).
The team consists of Emma Regimbald, Gemma Hazzard, Cadence MacDonald, Paige Vidler, Megan Putter, Abby Armitage, Kaitlyn Handy, Kayden Hayes, Isabelle Thiffeault, Julia Joyce, Bridget Kristjansson, Jayda Johnson, Monica Krasinkiewicz, Clare Heidman and Megan Norcross. Coaching staff includes Courtney Kerslake, Daniella D'Andrea, Jamey Mihalich, Rob Filip, Jen Leckie and Lisa Handy. All girls played a large part in the success this team found at this tournament.
