In Great Lakes Jr C Hockey the Wallaceburg Lakers took a thumping in their season opener against the Essex 73's taking a 13 - 1 loss
Essex scored 5 unanswered goals in the first period, added 3 in the second and 5 more in the third. Scoring the lone goal for the Lakers was by Justin Lindsay in the second period.
Wallaceburg went zero for seven on the power play, Essex went two on four opportunities.
Essex outshot the Lakers 56 - 18. Joel Sowinski was the losing netminder making 43 saves. Arren Romeril made 17 saves.
The Lakers look to put this game behind them as they are back in action tonight (Wed Sept 11) for their home opener against the Dresden Jr. Kings. Puck drop is at 7:30 pm.
