Two Teams from Sarnia are Vying for the Stanley Cup of Street Hockey - The Redwood Cup

Sarnia, ON - Two of Sarnia’s Hiawatha 3 on 3 Street Hockey Challenge Finalists are heading to Yarmouth, Nova Scotia for the Nationals Redwood Cup, September 26-28. 


Sarnia’s Adult Champions, The Fish-Hookers (with members Steve Farlow, Jeff Paulley, Sean Parker, Jason Teschke, Josh Teschke, Brent Sauve and Jeff Drexler), who also won the finals in London’s Regional Hockey Night in Canada Play On, will be headed to the Nationals.



In addition, Sarnia’s Midget champions, “Dirty Mike and the Boys” (with members Joey Austin, Jake Romphf, Kyle Smith, Mark Mclachlin. Colton Osborne, and Patrick Nahmabin). Coaches Mike Fisher and Collin Dawson will also be travelling to the national tournament with the team. Sarnia’s midget team “Dirty Mike and the Boys finished fourth place in London’s Play On and received a wildcard spot to compete at the Nationals. (team profile online not available)


Both Teams will be representing Sarnia and are looking for our community support. This is a once in a lifetime opportunity and they are extremely proud to be able to represent our community at this National Stage.

The Hockey Night in Canada Play On tournament is the largest sports festival in Canada which operates 21 events across the country coast to coast. The Redwood Cup, the final Play On Championship, is an invitation-only event for teams that qualified during one of the 21 Hockey Night in Canada’s Play On events held across Canada in 2013.   Teams representing every province and over 100 communities are expected to compete for the prestigious 2013 Redwood Cup.

Only winners, finalists and wild cards from the elite men’s, elite women’s, male 19 & under (Grinders) and  ale 17 & under (Enforcers) divisions at each of the twenty one qualifying events are invited to compete at the national championships.

The teams are looking for Community support to help with traveling expenses.  If you are interested in sponsoring the local teams, please drop off your donations to Tourism Sarnia Lambton, 556 N.
