SMAA Football Saturday Results From Norm Perry Park

Sunday September 22, 2013

All 12 teams in SMAA Football played at Norm Perry Park on Saturday.

In the Atom Division the Planet Stitch Inferno and the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 62 Iron Hides battled to a 24 all draw.  Gage Klyne led the Inferno with a pair of majors and individual touchdowns were scored by Matthew McCabe and Joshua Graham.  Noah Lester and Aaron Shanks countered with a pair each for the IronHides.

The powerful running of Perry Moffatt propelled the Cupe Local 1238 RazorClaws to an upset of the Lanxess ShockWave.  Moffat sped for 5 touchdowns on runs of 11, 16, 17, 18 and 35 yards.  Tyler Hopwood added another touchdown.  James Myers, on a nifty 22 yard run, counted the lone tally for the ShockWave.

In the first PeeWee game, the Rob Simrak Magic Realty Sky Fire were victorious by a score of 20-13 over the Purdy Fisheries Storm.  Isaac Kidd was the first player to score a major on a 5 yard run as the SkyFire opened up a 6-0  lead.  The teams then traded touchdowns before the half with Avery Smiley running 20 yards up the middle then kicking a convert for the SkyFire.  Justin Cain caught a 9 yard pass in the end zone from quarterback David Graham and Ethan Kerby ran for the convert for the persistent Storm.  The SkyFire led 14-7 at the break.  Ethan Kerby narrowed the lead to 14-13 on a 10 yard run.  Avery Smiley iced the game with a 23 yard pick 6 for the Chris Isaac coached SkyFire.

The Cupe Local 1238 Avengers earned a hard fought 14-0 decision over the Optimist Club of Sarnia Lakeshore Vortex.  Defense was the key in the first half as no points were scored.  Nathan Rannie stripped the ball from a Vortex runner and and scampered 20 yards to the house for the first score of the game midway through the third quarter.  Speedy Lucas Clubb iced the game for the Avengers with a 23 yard scamper around the left end.  Zachary Tremblay's convert increased the margin to 14-0 and the score remained this way until the end of the game.

The first Bantam game was an old fashioned shootout with the Sarnia Police Association Tiger Sharks scoring on the last play of the game for a 44-38 victory over the Sylvan Learning Centre Bears.  All possessions but 2 in this high scoring affair resulted in touchdowns.  Clay Mackie and Josh Clubb scored 3 touchdowns apiece and Cole Rogers added a kicked convert for the Bears.  Kurtis Hill scored 4 touchdowns for the Sharks, his last one on a 5 yard run as time expired.  Hunter Brumwell, Parker Kidd, and Tim Graham also scored for the victors.  Jeff Haggarty contributed with a convert.

The finale was another close game with the Mammoet Crane Incorporated Mammoths handing the Mechanical Contractor's Association Toros their first defeat 20-18.  The Toros scored on their first possession, a time consuming, 7 minute surgical drive that culminated with a 1 yard quarterback keeper by Jakson Fisher.  The Mammoths were quick to counter to this score as Cole Morrison ran 10 yards around the right side.  The Toros retook the lead and went into the break with a 12-6 lead after a 4 yard run off right tackle by Noah McLean.  The Mammoths surged ahead in the second half as Travis Conrad caught a 43 yard pass from Cody Lyon and ran to the endzone.  Garrett Patterson sucessfully converted this major.  Cole Morrison increased the Mammoth's lead to 20-12 with 8 minutes remaining on a 10 yard run.  The Toros weren't finished however and narrowed the lead to 20-18  thanks to another major by McLean.  As there was less than 2 minutes to play, the Toros tried a short kick that was recovered by the Mammoths to seal their victory.
