Mooretown Flags Defeat Wallaceburg in Exhibition

The Mooretown Flags defeated the Wallaceburg Lakers 5 - 3 Wednesday night in Great Lakes Jr C Hockey exhibition in Wallaceburg.

Both sides went scoreless in the first period. 

Brett Podgorski opened the scoring for Mooretown early in the second and the Flags went on and added two more goals by Dan Lumley and Brandon Layman. In the last minute of play Mike Brown scored for Wallaceburg.  The Flags led 3 - 1 after two periods. 

In the third the Flags Frankie White scored for Mooretown giving them the 4 - 1 edge over the Lakers.  Wallaceburg added two more goals by Lucais Meyskens and Rob Danyo to narrow the gap to 4 - 3. The Flags added one more goal late in the period and held on for the win.  Clay Williams scored the final goal for the Flags.

Mooretown outshot Wallaceburg 28 - 25.  Netminder Steven Taylor earned the win with 22 saves.  Lakers Joel Sowinski made 23 saves.

The two teams will face off in their third exhibition game on Saturday September 7 in Mooretown at 7:30 pm.

Mooretown season opener is set for Friday September 13 in Dresden and the home opener is on Saturday September 14 at the Moore Sports Complex.  Both games begin at 7:30pm.

Wallaceburg season/home opener is set for Wednesday September 11 at 7:30 pm against Dresden.
