Smith, Lapointe Star in Youth Bowling Tournament

saturday april 19, 2014

Several Sarnia bowlers have been participating in the YBT (Youth Bowling Tour) tournaments in St. Catharines, London, Oshawa, Toronto, Hamilton, Woodbridge, Guelph and Mississauga this bowling season. Some have been successful in either winning or placing second in the tournaments resulting in scholarship money won for their education.

The Lambton County Tenpin Association salutes Connor Smith and Ben Lapointe as the latest Sarnia bowlers to perform admirably on the lanes at Leisure Lanes in Oshawa. After four games against thirty other bowlers on difficult sport alley conditions, they both qualified to go into match play competition in C division (average 155 and below).

After a two game match play position round, Smith was in 1st place and Lapointe was in 4th place. Lapointe eliminated the three other competitors in the step ladder finals, setting up the final match between the two Sarnia bowlers from Hi-Way Bowl.

Smith, who was bowling his 7th game of the day, defeated Lapointe, who was bowling his 10th game, to win the tournament.

Each bowler will have money deposited in their scholarship account. Lapointe also received additional scholarship money for tossing 213 which was the highest game in the qualifying round.
