Point Edward Pacers Tryouts

The Point Edward Pacers Jr. B Lacrosse team is getting set for a new season.

Returning to the bench as Head Coach is Jim Bell.  Bell who stepped in midway last season looks forward to a fresh start on the bench for 2014.

Bell is a familiar figure on the floor as a former player, coach (Minors, Juniors & Seniors) and he is also a level 3 referee.

"We are looking forward to a very competitive season." Bell said "We are looking forward to the depth that we have on the team."

Five overage players from last season will not be retuning but the team has gained players from last year Jr Pacer Midgets.

"This year we have probably 26 - 27 players for 21 cards for 18 spots in a game which adds the depth.  We can even pare that down to 16 players 8 and 8 for offence and defence and play the best and that we have.  We never had in the past we always had to use fill ins."  Bell said

For the upcoming season Bell is determined to change the culture of the team.

"I think this age group we need to change the culture of the group.  It's been 10 years since we made the playoffs,  that my goal is to make the playoffs.  Founders cup is the ultimate but just to make playoffs to let these kids realize they can do it."

"In the past loosing had been accepted and when things go bad individuality steps up that's what kills a team. With this group that moved up they are really team first people."

And to help change the culture of the team Bell is looking for leadership in the dressing room.  Dan Charlton will lead the team as captain and Liam Wright, Brandon Burr, Connor Smith and Cody Ross will share the A's, two at home and two when away. Bell is confident these young men will help lead the team in the right direction.

Bell further explained "With changing the culture, we will by holding the kids more accountable and us (coaching staff) being more accountable by putting more effort into the kids on the floor as much as possibly than that has happened in the past."

Jimmy Purves and James Arnold are returning to the bench to assist Bell along with Kerry Adams, Ryan Charteris and Randy Dunn.  Doug White is returning as trainer and General Manager of the team is Ken Burr.

The Pacers are in action this weekend when they compete in the Six Nations Pre-Season Tournament.

Home opener for the Pacers is set for Sunday April 27 at 2:00 pm at the Point Edward Arena.
