The Corunna Giants U18 Midget are heading to the semi finals today (Sunday August 10) after winning two out of three games on Saturday in the double knock out format in Sun Parlour League playoff action.
The Corunna Giants 18U outlasted Tecumseh on Saturday squeaking out a 5-3 win at Fergie Jenkins Park.
The Giants took a 2 – 0 lead after three innings. Tecumseh narrowed the gap in the 4th with a single run then in the 6th scored 2 to take a 3-2 lead. At the top of the 7th the Corunna came back and tied the game. In the extra eighth inning a walk by Kyle Smith score Jamie Devereaux that gave the Giants the win.
Brett Farr got the win in relief for the Giants after pitching three innings allowing two hits, striking out one and no runs.
In the second game of the day against the Giants suffered their first loss after they were downed by Essex 6 – 2.
Essex scored 2 runs in the fourth inning and added 4 runs in the fifth. Giants 2 runs came in the sixth inning.
In the third game of the day the Giants came out on top with a bottom of the seventh inning run to take the win with a final score of 2 – 1 over Wyoming.
Wyoming took the lead in the third inning but the Giants closed the gap in the fourth.
Jamie Devereaux went 2 for 2 at bat and scored the winning run on a RBI by Lauchie MacDonald.
Joe Stock earned the win after pitching four innings allowing one run, two hits, six walks and striking out four.
The win earned the Giants a spot in the semi-finals that will be played in Tecumseh against the LaSalle Titans. Sunday semi-final game begins at 11:00 am.
