Approximately 600 fans visited the RBC Centre tonight for the 9th Annual Black & White game in support of the United Way.
Proceeds from the 50/50 draw, jersey raffle, and donation bucket totalled $2,786 to be donated back to the United Way Sarnia-Lambton. The Sarnia Sting would like to thank all of the generous fans that contributed to this total.
After 60 minutes of play, Team White came out on top by a final score of 6-3.
Team White registered the first goal less than 4 minutes into the game, on a rebound play by Sean Ginnell. After 20 minutes, that proved to be the lone goal.
Justin Fazio was relieved from the net half-way through the second period and managed to keep Team Black off the board in his 30 minutes of play. Kaden Fulcher replaced Fazio for Team White, and Shayne Battler replaced J.P. Sabourin for Team Black.
Late in the 2nd period, Davis Brown and Patrick White both added goals to make it 3-0 for Team White. With less than two minutes to go in the second period, Matteo Ciccarelli scored Team Black’s first goal, narrowing the gap to two before the intermission.
Returning forward, Hayden Hodgson scored early in the third period, followed by Davis Brown’s second of the game at the 16:30 minute mark.
Nikita Korostelev and Pavel Zacha connected for two straight goals for Team Black, narrowing Team White’s lead to two with five minutes to play in the game.
With just over a minute to go in the game, Alexandre Renaud put the icing on the cake for Team White, making it 6-3.
The Sarnia Sting are back in action on Monday, September 1st when the Saginaw Spirit are in town for the team’s first game of the pre-season. The puck drops at 2:05 p.m. and gates open at 1:00 p.m.
