The Sarnia Sting power play lines were hot in Owen Sound Saturday night as the Sting scored five on six opportunities and finished off with an empty net goal to defeat the Owen Sound Attack 6 - 3 in regular league action in the OHL.
Owen Sound went scoreless on two power play opportunities.
Sarnia scored two goals in each period. Jimmy McDowell lead the Sting with two goals. Single goals were scored by Anthony DeAngelo, Nikolas Latta, Nikita Korostelev and the empty net goal by Nikolay Goldobin. Goldobin assisted on three goals for a total of 4 points, DeAngelo, Latta assisted on two goals for three points each and McDowell also earned three points adding an assist to his two goals. Daniel Nikandrov and Kevin Spinozzi earned single point on assists.
Scoring for Owen Sound were Kyle Platzer, Damir Sharipzyanov and Brett Hargrave.
Owen Sound outshot the Sting 42 - 33. Brodie Barrick earning the win in net for the Sting made 39 saves. Jack Finn and Brandon Hope shared in the loss. Finn made 12 saves, Hope 15.
Sarnia's record is now 14-23-1-4 and still remain at the bottom in the West Division.
The Sting are back in action next weekend for a three game series. First game is at home on Friday at 7:05 against the Greyhounds. On Saturday they are in Peterborough and on Sunday afternoon in Oshawa.
Newcomer Haydon Hodgson traded in from Erie is out indefinitely awaiting league ruling on Friday night's checking to the head penalty. Also not in the lineup were Alexandre Renaud (illness) and Patrick White (upper body injury). The Sting called up Nick Sproviero from the Lambton Shores Predators.
Sting's Jimmy McDowell earned first star of the night, Kyle Platzer from Owen Sound was named second star and third star went to Nikolay Goldobin.
