Petrolia Squires Edged Out by Tillsonburg Thunder

The Petrolia Squires were in Tillsonburg Saturday night to take on the South Division leaders and were edged out with a final score of 3 - 2  in WOAA Senior AA hockey league action.

 

In the first period the Squires took the lead after scoring on the power play with Jeff Gardner scoring with Mike Gardner earning the assist.

 

The Thunder went on and scored two back to back power play goals to take the 2 - 1 lead heading into the second.  First power play goal was scored by Kevin Galerno and the second by Justin Salt.

 

In the second period Tillsonburg scored the only goal in the period to take a 3 - 1 lead heading into the third. Chris McGuffin scored the third goal for the Thunder.

 

Third period action saw the Squires continue to battle back and early in the period Craig Hottot narrowed the lead scoring a power play goal with Tyler Haddon and Jeremiah Goodacre assisting.  As the game was coming to the close the Squires pulled Chris Houle but were unable to score.

 

Houle was outstanding in net turning away 40 of 43 shots.  Cody Vinnai earned the win making 22 saves.

 

The Squires are now 10-9-0-3 for the season and are in 6th place in the standings race.

 

Next up the Squires are back at home on Friday Jan 24 hosting the Komoka Klassics.  Game time 8:00 pm.
