Huron Lakers Hosted Novice and Atom Basketball Tournament
Monday january 20, 2014

The Annual Huron Lakers Novice and Atom Girls basketball tournaments were hosted recently at St. Francois and Ecole Secondaire Franco-Jeunesse. As well as the home teams, the Chatham Wildcats, Windsor Valiants and London Ramblers made the trip for game action.

In the Novice (Grade 2-4) division, the host team found themselves battling for Bronze against the London Ramblers. After three close quarters, the Ramblers prevailed and were crowned Bronze winners. In the Gold medal matchup, the Chatham Wildcats won a close one over Windsor Valiants, that saw several lead changes in the last 90 seconds. Chatham took home the Gold while Windsor settled for Silver.

In the Atom (Grade 4-5) division, the host squad went 3-1 in round robin and advanced to the Gold medal game versus the undefeated Windsor Valiants. Windsor was last year’s Division 1 Silver medalists at the Provincial championships. The home team played outstanding defence, but, in the end, Windsor proved to be too much as the Lakers were presented with silver medals. In the Bronze medal game, London won a close game, 19-18 over the Chatham Wildcats.

Fans were treated to some good basketball by many of these up and coming players. Tournament organizators wish to send a special thanks to the custodians, the administration at St. Francois and Ecole Secondaire Franco-Jeunesse, scorekeepers and the Sarnia Referee Association for their fine work. Thanks also goes to all the Volunteers, parents, relatives and players.
