On a very hot and humid Tuesday night, the Sarnia FC U12 boys team played host to an undefeated London Athletic Club for their third league game of the season. The London Athletic Spartans brought their 4 game unbeaten streak into Sarnia looking to expand the string. Sarnia, who was also undefeated in this early season, were very anxious to compete with this highly talented squad.
London would open the scoring very early in the match on a defensive error and jump out to a quick one goal lead. Following the goal, Sarnia FC would re-group and from that point on, dominate the entire game. They showed great poise and patience moving the ball around the pitch with ease. London proved to be a strong force defensively as Sarnia could not find the back of the net. With continued pressure, Sarnia would finally solve the London keeper. Sarnia Striker, Michael Howe would take the ball and with forceful determination dribble around the Spartan defense to connect on a rebound which eluded the Spartan goalie. The teams would go into the half knotted at ones.
In the second half, Sarnia would control from the opening kick-off. They would pin London deep in their end with great possession and passing skill and create numerous scoring chances. Their fortitude would soon be rewarded. Mid-fielder Nathan Hawkes, would find an open Mateo Troiani who would advance the ball untouched and hammer in a line drive to give Sarnia the one goal lead. Minutes later, Hawkes would up the lead by two as he blasted one into the left corner of the Spartan net. Sarnia would close out the game with the win and keep their unbeaten streak alive!
Strong defensive performance by all Sarnia players. The Sarnia back four was a HUGE factor in the game denying most London opportunities. Sarnia keeper, Andrew Harron showed great composure on a relatively quiet night! Coaches were very proud of the boys effort and level of play.
Sarnia returns to action on Tuesday, June 24th @ Germain Park with a 6:30 kick off.
