Alvinston Indians Win at Home
friday june 19, 2014

Springfield traveled to Alvinston on Thursday night in St. Thomas and District Men's Fastball league to face the 9-1 Alvinston Indians. Harwood took the mound for Springfield, while the Indians countered with Jeff Lyons.

Harwood retired the Indians in order in the first inning, and Lyons did the same for Alvinston.  In the second inning, T. Schaffsma hit a single for Springfield, but the next batter grounded into a double play to the end the inning.  It was in the bottom of the second inning, that Alvinston would get their offence fired up.  Jeff Lyons reached base via an error and was promptly hit home by Aaron Stocking, after he crushed an opposite field 2-run homerun.  Four straight singles by Ryan Chapman, Eric Hyatt, Bryan Johnson, and Andy Triest, produced a third run for Alvinston, and a 3-0 lead, when Triest's single scored Chapman.  Joe Triest then grounded out to score Hyatt.  Jamie Shields then hit a sacrifice fly to right field to score Johnson, making it 5-0.  Then, the Indians would add one more run, when with two out, Craig Lyons singled to score A. Triest.

In the bottom of the fourth, Harwood was able to get the first two outs in the Indians lineup, before Craig Lyons singled again, for his second hit on the night.  Jeff Lyons then helped his own cause, when he hit a 2-run homerun over the centre field fence, to make it 8-0 for Alvinston

This would be the final score, as Jeff Lyons earned the shutout win for Alvinston, tossing 5 innings, allowing three hits, and striking out 2.

Next up is an away game for Alvinston next Tuesday evening in Glencoe at 8:00pm.
