Sting to Raise 50 Goal Club Banner
Wednesday October 29, 2014

The Sarnia Sting Hockey Club is pleased to announce that the 50th Goal Club Banner will be hoisted to the rafters prior to the team’s home game vs. Oshawa on November 14th.

The 20th Anniversary Season celebrations continue on Friday, November 14th when the Sarnia Sting raise a ’50 Goal Club’ banner to the rafters prior to their game against the Oshawa Generals. In attendance for this special occasion, will be Sting Alumnus, Jon Sim.

Sim was a member of the 1994-95 Inaugural Sarnia Sting team, playing a total of 211 games over 4 seasons with the club. The 3rd Round NHL draft pick recorded 50+ goals in 3 of his 4 seasons with the Sting and currently holds the franchise record for all-time goals (165) and points (311).

Sting President, Bill Abercrombie comments on raising the 50 Goal Club Banner. “As an organization, we’re thrilled to have Jon back to be our guest of honor on this night. Jon was a great player for the Sting, and an outstanding member of the Sarnia community for a number of years. Jon was the first player to have recorded 50+ goals in a season for the Sarnia Sting and it certainly seems fitting to have him in attendance on this night.”

The 50 Goal Club banner is the first of 3 to be raised during the team’s 20th anniversary season. The Sting will also be hoisting a World Juniors Banner for members of the Sting who have competed in the IIHF World Junior hockey Championship, and a Century Club Banner, paying tribute to all of the players who have recorded over 100 points in a single season.

The World Juniors Banner is the next to be raised, on November 23rd prior to the team’s afternoon matchup against Saginaw. The date for the Century Club banner raising ceremony has not yet been confirmed – release to follow at a later date.

Individual tickets for the 50 Goal Club banner raising game are now on sale. For ticketing information, contact the RBC Centre Box Office at
