Sarnia Sting 20th Season Home Opener Friday october 3, 2014
The Sarnia Sting
opened their 20th
OHL season with
outdoor festivities
and gathering of
former players and
3,582 fans.
The official puck
drop included former
Sting Players that
included
current head coach
Trever Letowski,
assistant coach Andy
Delmore, Sarnia
native Darren
Mortier, Brendan
Yarema, Aaron Brand,
Scott Hay, Damon
Hardy, Rob Massa,
Matt Hogan and Sasha
Cucuz.
In the home opener
the Sting dropped a
4 - 2 decision to
the Barrie Colts.
After a scoreless
first period the
Colts took a 2 - 1
lead at the end of
the second..
Thirteen seconds
into the second
period Roy Radke
scored the first
goal for the Colts.
Then just over six
minutes later Josh
Carrick added their
second. Late
in the period and on
a power play Daniel
Nikandrov scored the
first goal of the
season after hitting
home a rebound shot
by Nikita
Korostelev.
Pavel Zacha also
picked up the
assists on the play.

The Sting battled
back in the third
but after losing the
puck at the blue
line the Colts had a
two on one breakaway
and Brendan Lemieux
made the score 3 - 1
for the Colts.
At 12:52 Hayden
Hodgson deflected a
shot from the point
by Jeff King.
Vladislav Kodola
picked up an assist.
With Sting's
netminder Justin
Fazio sitting on the
bench the Sting
turned over the puck
to Colts Joseph
Blandisi who skated
in to score into the
empty net.
Sarnia scored once
on five power play
opportunities,
Barrie went
scoreless on three
chances.
The Sting outshot
the Colts 37 - 26.
Fazio made 22 saves
in the loss,
Mackenzie Blackwood
earned the win and
was named the first
star of the night
made 35 saves.
Daniel Nikandrov was
second star and
Joseph Blandisi
third.
The Sting's record
is now 0-3-1-0.
The Sting have two
more games scheduled
this weekend with a
pair of road games,
the first in Erie
who are undefeated
with a record of 3-0 on
Saturday then a
Sunday afternoon
game in
Mississauga
Steelheads who's
records stands at
2-0.
