wednesday october 15, 2014
The Sarnia Lady Sting hockey
team travelled to Guelph on
Saturday night to complete the 2nd
game of back to back games.
The First game was a 1-1 tie in
Sarnia on October 5th.
The Lady Sting fell behind early
in the first period 1-0, as they
had a hard time finding their
stride and getting any momentum
going their way. The 2nd
period had Guelph score twice
more before the end of the
period to take a 3-0 lead. The
Lady Sting came out stronger in
the 3rd period, but
ran into penalty problems and
Guelph scored two late goals to
take the 5-0 win. The Lady Sting
are circling Nov. 2nd
on their calendar to redeem
themselves vs. Guelph.
The Sarnia Lady Sting played the
second game of the weekend
against Saugeen at the RBC
center.
The Lady Sting started the game
strong as Tabetha Duquette
scored on the first shift of the
game. Duquette took the puck to
the net hard after gaining the
blueline, and was able to find
the back of the net giving the
Lady Sting a 1-0 lead.
The Lady Sting took the lead
into the 2nd period
and continued to play with good
speed and drive. Saugeen would
score a late goal in the 2nd
period to tie the game 1-1.
Both Teams had chances to grab a
lead in the 3rd, but
it wasn’t until the final 46
seconds that Saugeen scored to
take the 2-1 lead. The Lady
Sting showed great determination
with the goalie out of the net.
Suzanne Lockhart beat two
defenders to get the puck out
front of the net, where Vanessa
Wardell was able to slide it
pass the goalie with 6 seconds
left on the clock. The game
ended in a 2-2 tie and was well
played by both teams.
The Ladies are back in action
this weekend with their first
game on the road on Saturday
October 18 in London then back
at home on Sunday when they host
Walkerton at the RBC centre
beginning at 4:00pm.
