Lady Sting Midget A Went 1 - 1 in Recent Action
wednesday october 22, 2014
The Sarnia Lady Sting Midget A team went 1 – 1 in
Lower Lakes Female Hockey league
play last weekend.
In the first game the Lady Sting travelled to London
to play against the Devillettes
and came home with a 2 – 1 win.
The Lady Sting opened the scoring with a breakaway
goal scored by Suzanne Lockhart
in the 2nd period.
The Devillettes would tie the
game on their next shift, taking
a 1-1 tie into the 3rd
period.
The Sting came out strong in the 3rd and
had several chances before
Abigail Whitely made a nice pass
to Marissa Johnson who beat the
London goalie for a 2-1 lead.
Sarnia kept the pressure on for
the final few minutes of the
game making it difficult for
London to pull their goalie for
the extra attacker and Sarnia
held on for the win.
Both Sarnia goalies were used
due to an injury, and both had
solid games for the Sting.
On Sunday the Lady Sting hosted the #1 Ranked
Walkerton Capitals at the RBC
Centre. The start of the game
was delayed 20 minutes due to
inadequate ice conditions which
seemed to hinder the Lady Sting,
as Walkerton scored 2 quick
goals early in the first period.
The Lady Sting fought back and
had chances to get back in the
game, most notably a break away
by Naomi Parsons which was
turned away by the Walkerton
goalie.
Walkerton would score another
goal in the 2nd
period to take a 3-0 lead into
the 3rd. The Sting
continued to work hard in the 3rd,
but Walkerton would score two
late goals to take the win with
a final score of 5-0.
Ashley Norland despite the loss had a good game in net
for the Lady Sting.
The Sting have a well-deserved
week off before resuming action
on Nov.1st for an
away game against Saugeen
Maitland Lightning.
