The Alvinston
Indians opened the
semi-finals of the
St. Thomas &
District Major
Fastball league with
a 7-0 win over the
Glanworth Gators, on
Thursday evening at
home in Alvinston.
The game was
scoreless until the
bottom of the third
inning when
Alvinston exploded
for seven runs.
Bryan Johnson lead
off with an
infield single,
stole second base,
and with one out Joe
Triest singled home
Johnson for the
game's first run.
Jamie Shields then
walked to put
runners on first and
second. The next
batter was Jeff
Lyons who doubled
into the gap to
score both Joe
Triest and Shields.
Jeff then would
score on an
attempted throw back
to second that was
thrown away by the
pitcher into the
outfield, for what
was now a 4-0 lead.
Ryan Chapman was the
next batter, and he
doubled down the
third base line to
start a new rally.
Brad Cooper then
walked to put
runners on first and
second. Craig Lyons
then tripled into
the gap to score
both Chapman and
Cooper. Craig Lyons
would end up
scoring before the
inning was out via
another Glanworth
throwing error, and
all of a sudden
Alvinston had scored
seven runs.
That was all they
would need, as
pitcher Kyle
Crawford and the
Indians cruised to a
7-0 win in
five innings.
Crawford earned the
shutout win,
allowing two hits,
and striking out 13
Glanworth batters in
five innings of
work.
Game 2 goes Sunday
in Glanworth at
2pm.
