Sting opened their
season on the
weekend with a pair
of home games.
In the first game
the Jr. Sting hosted
the Brantford 99's
on Saturday at the
RBC Centre.
The two teams were
tied in the third
period but after
taking a tough four
minute call with
five minutes
remaining the 99's
scored two
late goals to take
a 7 - 5 win.
Isaac Oliphant led
the Jr. Sting with
two goals and
singles by Ryan
Pageau, Adam Osler
and Aaron Shanks.
Earning assists were
Jaxon Priddle, Bo
Doxtator, Ryan
Vidler, Garrett
Pearce (2), Landon
Buckingham and Aaron
Shanks.
The team's hardest
worker awards in
this game was earned
by Adam Maitland,
Ryan Vidler and
Isaac Oliphant.
“Kids played a
strong game for
their first AAA
hockey game." Head
Coach Cory Pageau
said "Strong
offensive effort,
but we will need to
tighten things up
around the net."
Game two on Sunday
found the young team
back on the ice
facing the Elgin
Middlesex Chiefs
where the Jr. Sting
were downed by a
score of 8 - 4.
“After a strong
effort in defeat
versus Brantford, I
was a little
disappointed in the
overall effort of
the club." Pageau
said "However
nine goals scored in
the first two
regular season game
is something to
build off of."
Nolan Mumford scored
two goals in the
game with singles by
Ryan Vidler and
Cameron McCarthy.
Adam Maitland, Luke
Doan, Adam Osler,
Tanner Winegard and
Aaron Shanks
assisted on the
goals.
The Hardest worker
awards were
presented to Isaac
Oliphant and Nolan
Mumford.
"Looking forward to
a good week of
practice and off-ice
conditioning."
Pageau said about
the upcoming week
before their next
game on Saturday
September 13. The
Jr. Sting are back
at home when they
host the Cambridge
Hawks at 12:00 pm on
Rink 1 at the RBC
Centre.
