It was describe as a
great game but the
Wallaceburg Lakers
came up short in
their home opener as
they took a 3 - 1
loss to the
Amherstburg Admirals
in Great Lakes
Jr C hockey League
action.
"We were happy with
the way the boys
played
tonight." Assistant
Coach Derek Ellis
said
The Admirals took a
1 - 0 lead in the
first period scoring
the first two goals
of the games with
Chad Copeland
scoring the first
and Mark Sobocan
scoring the second
on the power play.
Brock Daugherty
scored the only goal
for Wallaceburg late
in the first period
with Branson Bea and
Trevor Waller
assisting.
Second period was
scoreless and the
final goal for
Amherstburg was at
17:29 in the third
when Brett Banwell
scored a short
handed goal for the
Admirals.
Amherstburg out shot
the Lakers 32 - 29.
Joel Sowinski took
the loss in net
making 29 saves.
Daniel Tonieto
earned the win
making 29.
Wallaceburg went
zero for four on the
power play,
Amherstburg scored
once on three
opportunities.
"It
is going to take at
least 5 games for
the Rookies to get
to the Jr C level.
Even with the loss
it was positive"
Ellis also added

Wallaceburg Lakers
Hockey Club"
The Lakers are back
in action on
Saturday September
13th when they
travel to Mooretown
for the Flags home
opener. Game
begins at 7:30 pm at
the Moore Sports
Complex.
