Shawn Osborne Receives Dr. Pashby Trainer of the Year Award

Officer Shawn Osborne was
presented with the Dr. Pashby
Trainer of the Year Award
Tuesday night by Lambton AAA
President Mike Kelley and 1st
Vice President Derek Rannie.
The official announcement of the
award was made at the 2013-14
Alliance Annual Meeting held
earlier this year.
Shawn was nominated by the
Alliance Hockey through the
Lambton Jr. Sting Major Midget
AAA Players and Staff for his
significant involvement with
hockey and the HTCP in the
Alliance.
"It was a big
surprise to me." Osborne
said "It was initiated through
the coaching staff and of course
the players on my team.
Pretty humbling experience."
The Dr. Pashby award signifies
outstanding achievement in the
area of safety and risk
management and contribution to
the Hockey Trainers’
Certification Program. (HTCP)
Shawn is describe as a positive
role model and is highly
respected by players, parents
and peers and has brought his
influence of loyalty, respect
and honour to each team he has
been involved with.
Shawn's involvement with hockey
started when his son began
hockey in Tyke twelve years ago.
"I was
never professed to be a coach
that's too much stress for me."
Osborne said "I had a keen
interest in helping the boys out
in a different way and that was
through looking after their
health and safety with the team.
I've been very blessed to be a
part of my son's life in the
terms of hockey and part of the
lives of all the boys that I've
been involved with over the
years it's been a lot of fun."
Today his son is playing with
the Mooretown Flags Jr. C team
and Shawn is continuing to
volunteer his time in strength
and conditioning with the Flags.
"I gladly
accepted. Once it get's in your
blood it's hard to say no to
this stuff. It's just an
opportunity to try and do the
best you can for guys that are
up and coming."
About the Dr. Pashby Award
Dr. Pashby was an advocate of
safety in ice hockey in Canada
and helped push the use of
safety equipment for hockey
players including mandatory
helmets and face guards. He also
led the push for penalties for
cross checking and other actions
that could lead to back or eye
injuries.
Dr.Tom Pashby’s name is
synonymous with safety
throughout the sports world.
His pioneering work to prevent
catastrophic sports and
recreational injuries earned him
the Order of Canada and election
as a builder to Canada’s Sports
Hall of Fame.
