Game four in Glanworth
on Thursday evening
was a chilly one, but a
great crowd was on hand,
as Alvinston was at
Glanworth, with a chance
to close out the
series.
McKillop for Glanworth
and Crawford for
Alvinston took the
mound, and did not
disappoint once
again, as they both
turned in dominating
performances.
Glanworth tallied first
when Derek Stafford who
doubled, was
singled home by Jeff
Laidlaw in the bottom of
the second inning.
Alvinston
replied quickly in the
top of the third to knot
the game at one's, when
Craig Lyons singled and
eventually scored on a 2
out RBI single up the
middle by Brad Cooper.
Both pitchers kept the
opposing offences at
bay, until the top of
the seventh inning,
when Jamie Shields
walked for Alvinston to
lead off the inning.
Craig Lyons sacrificed,
but an error put runners
on first and second with
nobody out. The next
hitter was Ryan Chapman,
and he drove in Shields
for what was the game
winning run. Aaron
Stocking sealed the
series win, with a three
run bomb, as the game
finished 5-1 in favour
of Alvinston.
Kyle Crawford was the
winning pitcher for the
Indians, allowing one
earned run on five hits,
with one walk in seven
innings of work, while
striking out
11 Gators. Jake
McKillop and Glanworth
played a heck of a
series, and provided
entertaining and close
games for the fans to
enjoy, and they should
be commended for their
efforts as a team this
year.
The finals in the St.
Thomas & District Major
Fastball League open up
on Sunday in Alvinston
against the St. Thomas
Storm at 7:15pm. The
series will be a
best three out of five
series and should be a
dandy. St. Thomas
defeated Shedden three
games to none in the
other semi final to
reach the playoff
final. Game 2 goes
Monday in Fingal at
7:30pm. Dress warm and
come out and enjoy the
playoff championship
series!
