The Sarnia
Jr. Lady Sting Bantam C
Hockey team won the Silver
Medal at the OWHA Provincial
Championships this past Apr.
10-12 weekend in Vaughan,
ON.
In Pool Play Sarnia went
3-0. In Game 1 Sarnia beat
the Otonabee Wolverines 5-0
with Angelique Aliperti,
Emily Chute, Chloe Busby,
Alex Rizkallah and Macey
Leppington scoring. Angela
Steen recorded the shutout
between the pipes.
Game 2 saw Sarnia beat the
Blyth/Brussels Crusaders in
a tight game 1-0 with
Alexandra Rizkallah scoring.
Holly Moraal earned the
shutout in net.
In game 3, Sarnia beat the
Mt. Forest Rams 3-1 with
Emily Anderson, Angelique
Aliperti and Chloe Busby
lighting the lamp.
In the quarter-final, Sarnia
was matched up against the
Southpoint Stars. Sarnia
played a very solid game
winning 3-0 with Angelique
Aliperti and Chloe Busby (2)
bulging the twine and Angela
Steen earning the shutout.
The semi-final was a meeting
with an old foe, the
Ilderton Jets. This was an
incredible game, with
frantic back and forth play,
tremendous saves and scoring
chances. Erin Ellis-Parr
scored first early in the
first period with a
beautiful wrap-around goal.
Ilderton then replied a
minute later and five
minutes later but with 44
seconds left in the first
period, Erin Ellis-Parr
scored again on her patented
wrap-around play.
Sarnia scored the only goal
in the second period by
Chloe Busby.
With 3:42 left in the game,
Macey Leppington scored for
Sarnia to make it a 2 goal
cushion.
But with some late game
heroics, Ilderton scored
with 3:20 and 1:46 left in
the third period to send the
game into OT.
In dramatic fashion, these
two teams played four very
exciting OT periods before
Macey Leppington scored on a
goal from the slot to send
Sarnia to the Gold Medal
game.
After a 2 hour break,
the Championship
Game saw Sarnia matched up
against a very good skating
Sault Ste. Marie Storm team.
After a wonderful, exciting
game, the final score was
4-2 for Sault Ste. Marie.
Scoring for Sarnia was
Meghan Harvie and Alexandra
Rizkallah.
What an incredible season
for this group of players
with Sarnia capping the
season with a Silver Medal!
