Players Shine at 58th Annual
Robinson Tennis Tournament

Sarnia-Lambton was well
represented at the 58th
Annual Francis J. Robinson
Memorial Tournament, which took
place at Sanborn Park in Port
Huron from August 5-9.
The “Robinson” is one of the
longest running community tennis
tournaments in the United
States, with divisions ranging
from 10 & under to 65 & over. It
is the highlight of the local
area summer tennis calendar.
This year’s tournament had 255
players participating, with many
competing in two or three events
- singles, doubles and mixed
doubles. 21 Sarnia- Lambton
players participated, with 2
winning events, 4 reaching the
finals and 12 the semifinals.
Ryan Davies captured the 10s
Boys singles title and Tino
DiBattista won the 55s Men’s
singles title.
Andrew Davies (16s Boys),
Betty Latosinsky (35s Women’s)
and Marian Polakovic (45s Men’s)
were finalists in their
respective singles flights. Evan
Duggal (14s Boys), Andrew Davies
(16s Boys) and Betty Latosinsky
(35s Women’s) made the final of
their respective doubles flights
with partners from the Port
Huron area.
There were also many local
semifinalists in the tournament.
On the boy’s and men’s side,
semi- finalists included Duggal
(12s Boys singles), Chandler
Haagsma (14s Boys singles), Ryan
Davies and Jaxon Bore (14s Boys
doubles), Andrew Davies (18s
Mixed doubles), Michael Coleman
(Men’s Open doubles), Justin
Bourassa (Men’s Open and Mixed
Open doubles), Geoff Bore (35s
Men’s singles) and Tino
DiBattista (55s Men’s doubles).
On the girl’s and women’s side,
local semifinalists included
Monika Polakovic (18s Girls
doubles), Sarah Barry (Women’s
Open singles and Mixed Open
doubles) and Betty Latosinsky
(45s Mixed doubles).
Other area participants were
Chris Latosinsky (12s Boys
singles, 14s Boys and Mixed
doubles), Mihnea Balan (12s Boys
singles and 14s Mixed), Griffin
Allen (16s Boys singles and
doubles, and Mixed doubles),
Elise McInnis (16s Mixed
doubles), Kate Khan (35s Women’s
doubles), Bruce Davies (35s
Men’s and Mixed doubles), John
Baxter (35s Men’s and 45s Mixed
doubles), and Barb Baxter (45
Mixed doubles).
