Two Sarnia teams will be representing this district when the Ontario Novice Lawn Bowling Championships are held here in Sarnia next month.

The district playdowns were held at the Sarnia Lawn Bowling Club on Aug. 15 and 16. Seven men’s pairs teams, four of them from Sarnia, competed for the men’s berth in the provincials. In the end it came down to two teams from the Sarnia club, with the duo of Grant Collison and Jay Hill prevailing over Gerry Wild and Bill Nowosad.

In the ladies’ pairs, the Sarnia team of Mary Winter and Gwen Klatt went unchallenged and will represent the district at provincials.

Novice bowlers are those who have been competing for five years or less. The Sarnia Lawn Bowling Club will host the provincial novice championships on Sept. 12 and 13 at the lawn bowling greens in Germain Park. Sixteen ladies’ pairs teams and sixteen men’s pairs teams are scheduled to participate.
