Head coach Mark Davis says he
will face “a lot of hard
decisions” as he attempts to
finalize the roster for his
Sarnia Legionnaires.
Davis made the comment after the
Jr. 'B' hockey club wrapped up
its two-day training camp over
the weekend at the Clearwater
Arena.
"It was a heck of a camp,” the
veteran bench boss said. “The
black-and-white (intersquad)
game was very good, with a good
tempo. It was very competitive,
with everybody battling for
spots.”
More than 60 players were on
hand for the camp but only 31
remained by Monday morning.
Davis said further cuts will be
made as the team holds six
exhibition games in coming
weeks. When the regular season
opens, he hopes to be down to 23
players.
The annual black-and-white game,
which featured the top 40
players left in camp, ended in a
4-4 draw.
One of the prettiest goals of
the afternoon came off the stick
of Ryan Lyle of Team White, who
caught the top corner, stick
side, to tie the contest at 3-3
in the third period.
Other Team White marksmen
included Alec Dekoning, Jarret
Marks and Joey Zappa.
The best player on the ice may
have been Team Black's Ryan
Trottier, who scored a first
period goal and dominated
proceedings whenever he was on
the ice.
Other offensive stars for Team
Black included Zach Vanderwal,
who put his side ahead 4-3 with
a little over five minutes left
in the game, Brock Perry, Austin
Bottrell, Zach Vanderwal and
Nicholas Burgess.
The match was played before a
large crowd at Clearwater's red
rink.
