Flags Came from Behind to Win in OT

In Great Lakes Jr. C hockey league action the Mooretown Flags clawed their way back from a 4 - 1 deficit after the second period to win 6-5 in overtime against the Alvinston Flyers in Alvinston.

 

The Flags Jeff Brown scored the first and only goal in the first period.  In the second the Flyers scored 4 unanswered goals with Zach VanEyk scoring two and Karsten Berg and Kole Keating adding singles.

 

In the third the Flags rebounded and scored 4 goals and took a 5 - 4 lead.  Alec Sergers, Parker Gilhuly, Dawson Vautour and Joe DeSena scored for the Flags.  At 14:37 Kole Keating added his second of the night to tie the game and the score remained the same until the end of regulation time that sent the game into over time.

 

At 1:13 in overtime Nolan Riley scored the game winner for the Flags.

 

Netminder Brandon Johnson relieved Nolan Hakr in the second was credited with the win. 

 

Penalties were minimal with the Flags taking 4 minutes on 2 infractions and Alvinston took 2 minutes on one.

The Flags went scoreless on the one power play opportunity, Alvinston scored one on two chances.

 

 The Flags have a firm hold on 4th place in the standings race with a record of 14-8-2 leading Wheatley and Lakeshore by 5 points.  


Tonight (Saturday Dec 5) the Flags host Amherstburg (14-7-2-1) who is one point ahead of Mooretown and tied for second spot with Blenheim with 31 points.  A win for Mooretown will push them past Amherstburg by a single point.  Blenheim (15-8-1)  is back in action on Sunday when they face the league leaders Essex 73's (21-3-0-2).   

 

Tonight's game begins at 7:30 pm at the Moore Sports and Recreation Centre.
