Sarnia Girls Atom B Dominated at Scarborough Sharks New Years Classic

The Sarnia Girls Atom B team won the Scarborough Sharks New Years Classic Tournament.

 

In the first game the Lady Sting stung the host team, the Scarborough Sharks 11 - 0.


The Lady Sting scored 4 goals in the first with Ella Jackson from Sarah Gardner and Robyn Storey scoring first. Other goals in the first were scored by Makayla Barklay from Lauren Jackson, Kaitlyn Handy from Tessa Jackson and Makayla Barclay from Robyn Storey.

 

In the second period the Ladies dominated in scoring a total of 7 goals.  Teagan Cox scored two goals the first assisted by Candence MacDonald and her second goal unassisted.  Felicia Park and Paige Vidler also scored an unassisted goals.  Robyn Storey added a single with Makayla Barlay assisting.  Ella Jackson scored with Sarah Gardner earning the assist and Lauren Jackson added to the tally with Makayla Barclay assisting.

 

In the second game the Ladies took a solid 7 - 1 win over the Clarington Flames.  In the first period Sarnia scored 3 unanswered goals by Kaitlyn Handy and Sarah Gardner unassisted and Teagan Cox from Ella Jackson.  The second period Sarnia scored 3 more goals with Cadence MacDonald from Sarah Gardner scoring and Ella Jackson and Kensie Lacroix each netting singles unassisted.  In the third Makayla Barclay scored the only goal unassisted.

 

Clarington's lone goal came in the second period denying Peyton Burgess a shutout.

In the third game the Sarnia Ladies shut out the North York Storm 4 - 0.

First period saw the Ladies go up 2 - 0 with goals by Teagan Cox from Sarah Gardner and Lauren Jackson assisted by Robyn Storey.

The two teams were scoreless in the second but in the third the Lady Sting added 2 more to secure the win.  Ella Jackson scored assisted by Teagan Cox and Kaitlyn Handy added the second from Heather McIntosh.


Durham West Lightning suffered a 2 - 0 loss in the semi-finals as the Lady Sting continue to go undefeated.  Both goals were scored in the first period the first by Sarah Gardner unassisted and the second by Makayla Barclay from Gardner.


With a 4 - 0 record the Sarnia Girls earned a spot in the final game where the Sarnia Girls remained undefeated shutting out the Clarington Flames
5 - 0 win to bring home the gold medal.

 

In the first period Tessa Jackson scored the first goal and Makayla Barclay added the second with help from Lauren Jackson and Cadence MacDonald.
 

Second period saw the Lady Sting go up 4 - 0 with Sarah Gardner from Ella Jackson scoring the first second period goal and Ella Jackson from Teagan Cox added the second.

 

The final goal of the game was scored in the third by Makayla Barclay, her second of the game that earned her the MVP of the Championship game.  Lauren Jackson picked up her second point of the game assisting on the final goal.

 

Outstanding netminding by Peyton Burgess earning 4 shut out wins and allowing just 1 goal throughout the tournament.

 

The Lady Sting return to action on Friday January 9 with a home game at the RBC Centre against the London Devilettes.  Game time 7:00 pm.
