Petrolia Squires Weekend Action Secures Playoff Spot

The Petrolia Squires went 1 and
1 over the weekend taking a 4 -
3 win at home Friday night
against Tavistock Royals and on
Saturday on the road they
suffered a 3 - 2 loss in Clinton
against the Radars.
Friday night's win secured a
playoff spot for the Squires
with 4 games remaining in the
regular season. The
Squires are in 4th place with a
record of 12-7-0-1 for 25
points, 3 points behind 3rd
place Tavistock. (13-5-0-2)
In Friday's game Tavistock took
the early lead after five
minutes of play in the first.
Squires came back and tied it up
late in the period on a goal
scored by Jeff Paulley.
Second period action saw the two
teams end to end and with 2:12
left in the period Tavistock
regained their lead only to have
the Squires answer back just
under a minute later when Jessie
Drydack scored. With 45
seconds left in the period Norm
Leger found the back of the net
to give the Squires the lead for
the first time in the game.
With 5:13 remaining in the game
Chris Edwards scored an
unassisted goal giving the
Squires a 4 - 2 lead.
Tavistock battled back and with
1:29 left scored to narrow the
gap, but the Squires held on for
the win.
Brandon Campbell earned the win
in net making 23 saves.
In Saturday's game in Clinton
the two sides were even 1 - 1
after two periods and Clinton
went on and scored 2 late goals
in the third. The Squires
bounced back with a quick goal
to narrow the gap to one but a
late push wasn't enough and the
Radars held on for the win.

The Squires are back in action
next weekend with a home/home
series against the Huron East
Centenaires. The first game is
in Petrolia on January 16 at
8:00 pm, then the two will meet
again on Sunday January 18th in
Seaforth for an afternoon game
beginning at 3:30 pm.
