Western Counties U15 Competed in Vaughan Tournament

The Western
Counties U15 team competed at
the Vaughan Tournament this past
weekend going 0-2-1.
Friday night the Wolverines were
up against the New Era baseball
team from Buffalo, New York USA.
The Wolverines fell behind 4-1
after 2 innings but rallied to
score 4 runs in the bottom of
the third to take a 5-4 lead.
New Era tied up the game with a
run in the top of the fifth and
both teams were held scoreless
in the sixth as time ran out.
Final score was 5-5 . Greg Hay
was the starting pitcher going 3
innings giving up 6 hits, 2
walks and striking out 3. Kyle
Blunt came in and finished off
the last 3 innings giving up 2
hits, 2 walks and picking up 2
strike outs. Hay also chipped in
with a double while singles went
to Blunt, Drew Pepper, Evan
Rogers, Joel Pavey, Brett
Allardyce and Grant Spence.
Saturday morning the Wolverines
were up against the North York
Blues and ended up on the wrong
end of a 8-2 score. Drew Pepper
was the losing pitcher in this
contest going 4 2/3 innings
giving up 2 hits, 7 walks and
picking up 2 strike outs. Grant
Spence came in to finish the
final 2 1/3 innings giving up 1
hit, 2 walks and 3 strike outs.
Joel Pavey was the lone bright
spot on offence going 2 for 3
while Jacob Breault picked up
the only other hit.
Saturday afternoon game was a
must win contest against Laval,
Quebec. Laval had a 2-0 lead
going into the fourth inning
when the Wolverines score a run
in the top of the inning to
close the gap, but Laval
answered back putting up 7 runs
in the bottom of the fourth to
take a commanding lead 9-1. The
Wolverines were able to score a
couple more in the top of the
fifth before time ran out in the
hotly contested game for a final
score of 9-3. Jake Taylor took
the loss throwing 3 1/3 innings
before Brett Allardyce came in
to close out the game. The
Wolverines could only muster 5
hits with 4 of them being
doubles coming off the bats of
Jacob Breault, Joel Pavey Greg
Hay and Allardyce.
The Wolverines will be on the
road for a double header action
Saturday in Windsor against the
Windsor Star Minors and Sunday
in Tecumseh to play the Tecumseh
Major Bantams.
