The Alvinston Indians participated in the OASA Great Lakes Provincial tournament in Tavistock July 10-12. Their 3rd place finish earned them a birth to the Senior Men’s Canadian Fastball Championships in Saint Claire, Quebec at the end of August.

The Indians would drop their first game to the Kitchener Cubs 9-2. Rory Miller would take the loss for Alvinston, while Jon Baker recorded the win for Kitchener. Dan Mitchell would finish 2/2 with a homerun and 2 RBI for the Cubs.

In game 2, the Indians would send Travis Jones to the mound to face the Elmira Expos. The Indians opened the scoring in the 2nd inning, after Ryan Chapman singled to start the inning, and would come around to score on a 2 out single by Brad Cooper. They would add to the lead with 2 more runs in the 3rd, on a sac fly by Rowan Lam, and RBI single by Chapman. Elmira answered quickly with 2 runs in their half to make the score 3-2 after 3 innings. After Alvinston added one more run in the top of the 7th, Elmira pushed the game to extra innings when Dan Martin hit a 2 run homerun to tie the game 4-4. Alvinston continued to push the offence, scoring 3 runs in the 8th on an error and RBI singles by Jamie Shields and Justin Krulicki. With a 7-4 lead, Ben Hodgins was able to retire the Expos in order in the bottom of the 8th, securing the win for Alvinston. Ryan Chapman finished 4/4 for the Indians with 2 runs scored and an RBI.

Alvinston faced off against the Shakespeare Falcons in Game 3. Rory Miller silenced the Falcon bats over 5 innings, throwing a no hitter in a 7-0 victory, allowing only batter to reach base. Craig Buttar sparked the offence for the Indians reaching base 3 times with 3 runs scored.

With a spot in the semi final secured, the Indians faced the Great Lakes Pirates in their final game of the round robin. Both pitchers were excellent, and the Indians were able to close out a 2-1 victory. Ben Hodgins picked up the win for Alvinston allowing 1 run on 5 hits, while walking 2 and striking out 8. Caleb Keeshig was also effective for the Pirates, allowing 2 runs (1 earned) on 5 hits, while striking out 9.

The playoff round would see a rematch versus the Elmira Expos. The Indians struck early scoring 3 runs in the bottom of the 1st on a 3 run homerun by Jeff Lyons. The Elmira bats would slowly come alive adding 2 runs in the 3rdand 4th followed by 3 more in the 5th inning capped off by a two run homerun by Derek Martin to take a 7-3 lead. After a pitching change, the Expos continued to press, adding two more runs to take 9-3 lead heading to the bottom of the 7th. Alvinston threatened in the 7th, bringing the tying run to the plate, but a strikeout ended the game with a score of 9-6. Scott Lealess was 4/4 for Elmira with 2 runs scored and 3 RBI.

The Indians finished 3-2 on the weekend, good enough for a 3rd place finish. The Kitchener Cubs would defeat the Elmira Expos 3-0 in the Final.
