Sarnia
Lady Sting Midget AA
Capture Silver in
LLFHL Final Four
Champions Weekend.
After winning the
West division
Championship last
week, the Sarnia
Lady Sting Midget AA
team continued their
winning ways and
finished off a
wildly successful
and entertaining
season by winning
silver at the Lower
Lakes Female Hockey
League (LLFHL) Final
Four Champions
tournament this past
weekend.
Playing with just 2
lines for the past 6
weeks (due to
injuries) the team
knocked off several
of the highest
ranked teams in the
province along the
way to their Silver
Medal. The team
started the
tournament facing
the Oakville
Hornets, the
tournament favourite
and 3rd ranked team
in Ontario. Down 2-1
in the third and
with momentum on
their side, the
Sting looked for the
equalizer and came
very close on
several occasions,
before allowing 2
more goals,
including an empty
netter, to drop Game
1, 4-1.
The girls then
bounced back later
in the day and
handily defeated the
Aurora Panthers 5-0.
Needing at least a
tie against another
highly ranked
Toronto Aeros team,
the team played one
of their finest
games of the seasons
to earn a hard
fought 3-3 tie and a
berth in the Gold
medal game and
re-match against
Oakville. Despite a
fine effort, the
girls didn't quite
have enough gas left
in the tank to
contain the high
flying Hornets and
lost 4-0.
Every player
contributed equally
and effectively to
the success of the
team this year and
the team was notably
complimented by many
observers and
opposing teams for
their efforts.
Finishing second out
of 46 teams in a
league of the top
Midget age players
in Ontario is quite
an accomplishment.
Congratulations
girls.
A special thanks and
good luck to our
graduating 3rd year
players; Naomi Dubs,
Meghan Blythe,
Leslie Brandon and
Julia Lupton.
The remaining
players will all
gather for the
2015/16 tryouts in a
few weeks for
another run at a
championship next
year.
